yeah, i read about htis in the paper yesterday.
i think it's funny because how do you think those people get chosen to have a house built?
they're in POOR living conditions and it turns into a sob story.
people feel sorry for them and decide to something about it
well, why do you think they're in that condition to begin with? THEY PISSED AWAY WHAT THEY HAD TO START WITH!
it didn't surprise me at all
those people built one over by my grandmother's house a couple of years ago for a family of 12 = 2 parents & 8 kids
5 bedroom, 3 bath 2 story house right in the middle of a slum neighborhood
people lived there 3 months, lost it, banks own it, now looks like haunted mansion in the ghetto
THE WHOLE THING MAKES ME SICK!
all that compassion wasted on sorry s.o.b.s

Tell us how you really feel Phen... lol. I can't remember which comedian it is but his tag line is "You can't fix stupid". That's that this stuff reminds me of. Extreme Makeover has done some really cool things for people and I think it's great for your Sunday night feel good show, but come on, you really want to help some of these people then give them a chance to earn something, not hand them a new house just because they have had some misfortune. Oh, and like you said, you want to see how the new mansion is going to look in a few years then look at the condition of their current house!

I guess the good thing is that this family tried to do something with the money like starting a construction company.

This is why I am no longer a supporter of Habitat for Humanity. I used to volunteer my time in Aiken, SC to build homes. The new home owners would have to provide a certain amount of sweat equity before they could actually call the home, theirs! They had to pay a mortgage just like anyone else does. However, you should see many of the homes. They are trashed and run down. People are a product of their environment. They are only as good as they want to be. If they weren't raised with morals, how should we expect them to have any? When my parents paid for everything, I didn't respect my belongings. When I had to start taking care of myself, I learned that taking care of your belongings is about self respect. I take better care of my things now days.

This is why I do not DONATE!
